On October 2nd Zaha Hadid Architects launched their much anticipated (to us architecture nerds anyways) iPhone and iPad App, made available through Apple and iTunes. This new App will allow users to browse through ZHA current portfolio of design and architecture. In a future update to the App there will be exclusive access and insight into some of the award winning buildings in the form of interactive guides (coming soon) to be used when visiting Zaha Hadid’s buildings.
The layout of the App is a clean transition from Zaha Hadid Architects website, with the ability to view “wallpaper” size images of some of ZHA award winning projects and corresponding project descriptions and details when the “information” key is selected. While you are limited to the real estate of either your iPhone or iPad, the cleanness of the App makes for an extremely efficient and elegant experience. Making is simple to browse through the selected projects and staying up-to-date with resent ZHA news and projects.
Currently there are four selections on the main screen to choose from: News, About Us, ZHA World, and Your ZHA. Through the News tab you are directed to recent office activity that dates back to 2010. The About Us tab directs you to a brief biography of ZHA and the option to select from three short videos on the philosophy of the practice. ZHA World takes advantage of the iPhone’s ability to use GPS and locates in Real-Time the projects completed by ZHA.
This feature uses a Google Map to show which projects are near you and further divides them into sector, built and location categories. The most exciting of the features will surely be the Your ZHA option when made available. Through this function you will be able to customize and share your experience when visiting Zaha Hadid’s projects.
Overall the quality of the newly released Zaha Hadid Architects App is extremely high. The shear simpleness and elegance of the App allows for the information made available to actually read through. I can speak for the architecture nerds in the room that we can hardly wait for the customized feature within the App to become available, it will surely follow the same high level of craft that is constant and expected within the work of Zaha Hadid Architects.
